YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW HAPPY SEEING THIS MADE ME yume nikki is so important to me and this is the coolest shit ive ever seen BEGGING !!!!!!!!! for the full game to be remade someday , this is so fucking cool and you are so talented, madotsuki is so cute and i love the liminal feeling of the small field of view, it's genuinely such an interesting way of seeing the worlds in yume nikki and i'm just so excited to see this project blossom. you did such an amazing job! thank you so much for your incredible work!!!

Thank you so much! ♥

Definitely would LOVE to see this expanded upon

Absolutely shocking how quality this is.

Thank you! I’m glad that all my hard work and all the polish is appreciated. :)

Even though it's small, this is Probably my favorite 3D Yume Nikki Recreation right now, i would love if someday you would finish it, and to have at least the full original game recreated in this style

this would be amazing to get a full game out off holy

I hope you can keep making the game making the game from scratch in ps1 engine is actually impressive

Loved this, an absolute joy. Everything in this is so cool - I love the photo mode and its menu with the button icons and everything, and jumping is a really fun reinterpretation of the design of the block world - but you pulled an absolute blinder with Madotsuki. Her model is so cute and her animations - pinching, the peace sign, and all the anim work for setting up NASU - are absolutely perfect!!

Thank you so much!

What’s fun is that I initially started making this model as a placeholder as I was very hesitant to make the most important model in the game…

But somehow it started feeling right after a few iterations. And as I added animation, I thought “Yes! That’s it!”. And I’m glad that so many people liked it. :)

Absolutely amazing, this looks adorable and it really feels like it was made with love! I'd love a full version!! :D

hello, I am the guy from twitter that said he'll play this on PSP (I since deleted my account though, lol)

I tried loading it several times, I got it to show the Playstation logo with the broken text (no uboa) and it freezes after zooming in on the logo. Good thing is that the PSP isn't frozen, just the game, so you can still navigate the menu and quit out of it, but yeah, I wasn't able to get past this, I'm wondering if it freezes specifically because the intro is edited but I wouldn't know.. anyone got this working?

sorry if i missed some info and im being ignorant, im not super well versed in all of this, im just a fan of handheld gaming. although i read through everything the best i could. if i can *try* and give some helpful info its that the PSP has a built in PS1 Emulator in it which is pretty spot on and i used PSX2PSP which is the go to program to get PS1 games on PSP and it never gave me trouble before, ive tried dozens of other games even other modern games made for older hardware similar to this project but never ran in to something like this, thanks in advance

Hello. Some day I’ll get a PSP and will try to make it run there. My game uses very unconventional structure as it doesn’t use Sony’s PS1 libraries…

But I’ll try to make it closer to what Sony did and maybe it will work. :)

awesome, love to hear it. also, all the love this project has been getting is really nice to see but remember theres no pressure to finish it, just have fun :p

Tried the same and the exact same result. Really hoping for this to work in the future

I LOVE YOUR WORK! I have no words to describe this masterpiece. I would love for this project to go even further. I know I'm not the only one who loved this wonderful work and hopes to see it go far. Thank you for contributing in this way to a game that has meant so much to my life, and to so many others.

Thank you so much ♥

I finally got it to work on my PS2 Test unit after resetting it multiple times to get it to play. My PS2 Test unit has trouble reading CD-Rs well compared to pressed discs. I’m exploring the game now. BTW I have psyqo with intention to develop for PS1 as well. I’m still figuring out what kind of game I should go for.

OMG SO GOODDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

One of the best YN adaptations I've seen, the atmosphere is amazing, despite a few technical bugs (some geometry phases through madotsuki). Please consider continuing the project!

Thank you!

Some bugs/visual glitches are to be expected…

I could fix some of them, but this would make the performance even worse. I had to find some balance between performance and graphics looking right/good.

here's some help for PS2 users!
If you use Modbo modchip, you can boot this game only if you set the boot mode to "DVDV" in your modbo menu (accessed by pushing triangle and circle at the same time when booting. Have fun

Im really grateful you made this ! Full version!

Full version would be great!

This is something I dreamed about for years as a kid, literally, when I played Yume Nikki and LSD Dream Emulator for the first time. Amazing work!!

i second this

Thank you so much!

Doesn't work on pSX (the Windows emulator) nor my real hardware fat PAL PS2 :^( I can help you with debugging the latter if you care about supporting PS2

(1 edit)

ePSXe (if you mean this one) is old and outdated (I found the pSX one and it’s also quite old).

I only support DuckStation.

As for the PS2 - it’s confirmed to work on it, but only when running with CD. POPSTARTER/OPL will not work because they use a different way of PS1 emulation on PS2 and I don’t have strength to try to support this, sorry…

Ohhh, thanks a lot, I did indeed use POPS - I'll try with a CD!

This is phenomenal, I'm sure this would sell like hotcakes if playism gave you permission to sell this. Please please please consider working on this further even if it's just occasional updates.

Thank you!

I plan to port this to PC soon (while preserving the PS1 aesthetic) and I’ll later try to pitch it to Playism. :)

Really cool project!

Such an amazing project full of love!!
What mazes us is how close it feels to an actual "port" of Yume Nikki, as if it's what the original developer intended for people to play on the console.
We find that the environments look quite accurate, although the low draw distance and model pop in hinders the exploration quite a bit . Perfectly captured atmosphere aswel, and we are really exited to see all of Yume Nikki elements implemented in the game, like 8-bit world could turn ever object into a 2d sprite, or the big environments using expansive skybox. Also the scrolling background in the block world is convincing but lacks "scale", we are aware of the Ps1 limitations, so, maybe some prospective trickery with the speed that the background scrolls at can make the effect more convincing. One question arises with the inclusion of the jump button which feels quite out of place. turning the limited and contemplative movement of the original into a platformer like control scheme that might take away from the experience. But all said, this is just a demo, and a wonderful one at that, perfectly capturing what makes Yume Nikki special. We wish a bright future to the development of this project!!!

Thank you for playing. :)

Yes, a lot of PS1 limitations didn’t allow me to make it a perfect experience, but maybe if I port it to PC, the draw distance can be somewhat improved.

As for the jump, I deliberately put it in a bit of a weird spot so that the player doesn’t feel motivated to use it (pressing triangle isn’t that pleasant when holding square). I might have hidden it more so that the “OG” feel is preserved, but other people have enjoyed jumping so far… But I understand that this is a bit of a controversial mechanic.

this is the banger of all bangers

Putting my hat in the ring for "please do a full version!"

I was impressed that the snowfield wasn't flat but slightly bumped. I appreciate the approach that respects the original while subtly incorporating 3D elements. I strongly wish for a full version.

Thank you so much for playing. I tried to make the experience as close to the original and as respectful/authentic as possible. :)

this is so interesting and well done, i hope you decide to make the full version!

absolute peak.

Great Project Bro!

This is amazing! I would absolutely love a full version of this!!

definitely make the full version

Would love a full version, I'm gonna make a youtube video to hopefully spread the word around a bit

full version yes please!!!

Commenting to say that this project is brilliant, and I hope for a full version. I'm amazed at how evocative yet appropriate the PS1 aesthetic manages to be.

i'd love a full version someday cos this looks really cool

This is an amazing project. Great job

Show post...

Peak just dropped.

Trying it on Steam Deck rn, this looks amazing!
